Chelsea Spengemann works at the intersection of artists’ legacies, archives, and estate planning, helping artists, families, and foundations care for creative work over the long term. She is the co-founder and Executive Director of Soft Network, a New York City–based nonprofit founded in 2021 to support under-resourced artists and estates. Soft Network houses AFELL (Artist Foundations and Estate Leaders List), a professional resource group for people stewarding artists’ legacies.

Since 2008, Spengemann has worked with the estate of Stan VanDerBeek, guiding the preservation, scholarship, and exhibition of the pioneering experimental filmmaker’s work. In 2019 she co-curated VanDerBeek + VanDerBeek with Sara VanDerBeek at the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center. Her other curatorial projects include Becoming Disfarmer (2014) and The Instant as Image (2016) at the Neuberger Museum of Art.
